i have the same problem with my astra turbo deisel 1.7

I think the flywheel has to be locked on these - there is a pin to go through the engine block and into the flywheel, usually behind the starter motor on the front of the engine. The camshaft sprocket should have a visible mark. If you check out Autodata you can get info on line - or a Haynes manual could do the same.
