Problem lighting up burner on Riello 40 oil burner(Warmflow boiler)?

my burner lights but takes several trys, first it fires for fraction of sec, slightly longer next time, then longer each time until it keeps running. It can take up to 10 goes. Once lit it works fine until next time it needs to fire up. It has only gone to lock out once. Oil tank has never been empty. Any ideas?.

T. I did get a service engineer to adjust it as advised by Riello. I just wanted to have an idea of fault first to minimize cost and not get ripped off.

should mike not have suggested an 'Oftec' technician adjust your air damper settings (with a FG analyser in hand) to insure no increase in CO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very suprised a Riello giving out this kind of advise to untrained people, as dangerous situation can result form a poorly set up burner.......................

Thank you Mike for the details on over-aired due to changes in heating oil. My tank was filled with new oil only a few weeks ago. Slight adjustment to the air inlet flap has cured the problem. Others may also get this problem next time they fill up. Nice to get such friendly and helpful service, thanks again

This may just be that the burner is slightly over-aired.
If you wish to phone the Riello Technical Help Line on 01480 432144 option 5 then we could discuss your problem.

This usually indicates an oil pressure problem - which normally is around 125 psi. Its best to get the pump pressure tested (by someone who knows what they're doing) and if necessary replaced. Its also worth fitting a new nozzle at the same time.
