Sony Vaio VGN FS215B laptop not even turning on?

I shut down my laptop for a few hours and returned to try and power it on. However othing happens. Its as if it is dead. No flicker of the power light, no booting sound, Nothing. The power cord is in place securly. Ive had the laptop for a few years now and have never encountered this problem.

You must start logically & never assume anything! Plug power pack into a different socket to see if it works,get a multimeter & test if u are getting power out at the plug thatgoes into the laptop,if these ok then it must be laptop,poss a surge protector fuse inside.
