LG DC593W Regional codes free?

with DVD draw empty, machine on
Wait until "No Disc" displayed
Press "Pause" on remote
Enter "314159" on remote
Display should read "Code---"
type in region code or "0" for region free
press "Pause"
turn unit off & wait at least 5 seconds
Turn on and insert disc

There is another way if this doesn't work:
turn on, tray empty.
press "open" and let tray open
on remote press "0000"
Display should read "code"
press "pause"
turn off wait 5 sec
turn on, play disc

This came from LG (there is a comment about being fairly quick or having to turn off and start again!)
