6.5 briggs and stratton intek dies?

i have a b&s 6.5 intek horizontal shaft on a go cart. it starts easily and idles fine, but when i step on the gas it dies every time. i pulled the carb and it looked good and clean, but i went ahead and soaked it in carb cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. fuel flow from the tank is a full flow. i also went ahead and checked the valve adjustment while i was there and it was good also. engine does have a little oil smoke out the exhaust but not bad. and comppression seems goodany ideas would be greatly appreciated

i believe the engine may have originaly been off of a tiller, as it has troybilt decals on it. what is the easiest way to open out the main jet?

Briggs & Stratton make a series of engine specifically for go-cart/RV use. I suspect yours is a standard type. One of the differences is different carburettor calbration - slightly richer than standard.

Agricultural/industrial applications do not have any requirement for rapid pck-up, so this fault would never occur during standard use.

You have 2 options - get a B&S approved engine for your go-cart, or install a hydraulic damper on the throttle control to prevent the throttle snapping wide open and 'leaning out' the engine., OR (assuming there is no mixture adjustment possible), open out the main jet slightly.
