Another possibility is that either one or both wires on each side of the door have snapped or come undone. This has happened to me. You can buy or get new wires made up (about £12 the pair), but then you have to fit them; I've tried twice, and not giving up yet! If finances aren't an issue, get the pros. to come in and fix it.

sounds like you need to get the a garage door firm in,
the sring is the sides held on the bottom wth a roll pin which sounds like it has broken off, it is repairable some times, bit in the end you will need a new part
