I have a 2002 lwb Ford Transit van (front wheel drive).My 5th gear keeps popping out when i am driving.Once or twice the first gear has deceived me into believing it has engaged when it hasn't but then of cause a loud crunchy noise follows when i try to take off.
Does anybody know what i am dealing with and how to solve it?
i have a transit diesel 100ps t280 03 reg. can only get 3rd and 4th gears. wont go over to 1st or 2nd or reverse. Any ideas?

the cables oftne stretch that go from the bottom of the gearstick to the gearbox on the 02 they should still be the adjustable type. you access them from under the van there is a cover under the gearstick. 4 clips hold it on. also if the gearstick is quite sloppy you could have a problem with the gear selectors on top of the gearbox. to remove them is 6 10mm bolts. when you have the selectors out there is a 10mm bolt about half way down check that it is tight because they can become loose
