how can i check if the alternator is charging 51plate transit duratorque 2?
the charging light hasjust appeared on the dash how can I check if it is alternator or a fuse any body know thanks.it is a 51 plate transit 2.4litre duratorque diesel
if you do connect a meter to the alternator and get no reading be careful its not always the alternator. at the front of the engine is a plastic cover the the wiring loom runs in. the wiring sumtimes rubs through on the thermostat housing. would be a good idea to check that.the cover is held on with 3 torx40 bolts

Put the headlights on and get someone to check them whilst you rev the engine. They should become brighter if the alternator is working.

buy a cheap multimeter,follow instructions and connect to bat,engine running and all lights/heater everything on,volt meter must show minimum of 13.5 volts max 14.5 at 2000rpm
