how can I fix the starter problem of my vw caravelle?

has anyone had a definite answer to the caravelle not starting at certain times? I have recently got a 1997 model and it is doing same. `what do the guys at vw say on this?

Instal a 12v relay near the starter so that the current from the starter switch operates the relay coil and the contacts of the relay switch the much heavier current for the solenoid.
