i had this problem as well, i replaced the smal plastic clutch master cly above the pedel, and it never solved the problem, i thought it was the slave cly inside the gear box but when i put a pressure bleeder on it i noticed a small weep from the plastic quick connect on the gear box, i uncliped the hose from the slave cly and there was no seal on the male end of the hose, i had to buy a new hose but it solved my proble

Hi Gary,
not neccesarily an answer but certainly I was extrememly interested to read of your problem.
I own a 53 Trafic dc1 140 (the 2.5 version of the same vehicle) which sounds as if it is suffering the same problem as yours.
I am having dialogue with Renault UK as I firmly believe that a faulty master cylinder (that they replaced under warranty) was directly responsible for premature clutch wear and subsequent failure of the clutch at only 44000 miles!!!
They are very reticent to re-imburse me for the cost of the new clutch which I paid to have re-placed by my local Renault Dealer in Kings Lynn only three days before it was discovered that the cylinder was at fault following failure of the new clutch to operate to operate correctly once again. The cost of the new clutch, as you probably know , was a little under £900.00 inc labour parts and fluid for gearbox.
Like yours there was no apparent fluid loss. I have not as yet located any bulkhead cracks but a thourough inspection is not possible just yet as I broke my right foot last wednesday and am in plaster.
It does lead me to wonder if there may be a duff batch of master cylinders knocking about due to the coincidences of symptoms, age of vehicle etc.
I would be very pleased to hear from you as to what the current situation is vis a vie your new clutch and cylinder and will most certainly let you know of my progress to date.

kind regards

Andrew.

Ive seen the bulk head crack on these type of vehicle so the master cylinder does,nt get the travel it needs to push the clutch or return the pedal look round the master cylinder on the bulk head and the pedal box look for cracks opening up when the pedals pushed
