polaroid dvd portable player. Screen not showing picture only horizontal-?

lines and fuzz. What might be the problem? The sound and keys work or seem to, however we are unable to view, but the sound is audible.

the bottom off the dvd is taped together to keep the light on but when i put a dvd in the thing it doesnt play at all the screen just stays black and i made shure the dvd player was on but it still wont work at all
