Mend Jones Needle Machine Changed

needle adjustment on old jones sewing machine?

whenever i've tried to use my machine the needle hits the metal plate, ive oiled machine changed needles but the same thing happens , ive discovered though when i tilt the machine the needle goes through i even tried it with bobbin in machine and it still goes through when machine is tilted but when i untilt machine the needle hits the plate . please can you help me

Most unusual, the only thing that can be wrong going by what you say is the needle bar itself must be loose.
