Bottom thread is too loose?

When I use my Kenmore(model 91811) the top thread looks fine...when I look at the back it is very loose and messy. What am I doing wrong?

Hello Elsie,
Set the top tension between 4 and 6, make sure the thread goes between the tension discs when you thread up, put the presser foot up, bottom tension should be enough to be able to pull the thread through with some resistence.

your tension is not set right. check out your manual to find where the tension knob is and what the best setting for it is. or use a scrap piece of material and adjust the tension until it looks like the top thread.
