How can i fix my tailgate release button?

Do you have any fitting instructions for the boot lock latch for a renault megane 2?

If the tailgate button pops out and there is no "O" ring in the groove. Simply replace the "O" ring with one about 1-2mm thick that fits snug in the groove, spit on it for lubrication and push the button back in. No tools needed.

Thanks for the helpful recommendations. I enquired at our local Renault garage and they quoted >£100 for the replacement of the lock but without colour adjustment. I followed the instructions above and it took me 45minutes. Thank you!

Mike - I have just encountered the same problem with my 2002 (52) reg 1.6 Scenic also, only in my case, after opping it in a number of times, it then decided to pop out somewhere on the M25 - so now without tailgage button - only access to boot via folding down the seats - any solutions ??

Hi, I have 2001 scenic monaco petrol auto, how dose the tailgate window open please there seems to be the makings of a switch in the middle of the tailgate any idea of the cost of a new switch if this is required.

Hi

This happened because the boot button is retained by a rubber 'O'ring which had perished and split.

Here is the fix:-

You need a T20 'star' screwdriver or bit and a rubber 'O'ring that fits snugly in the recess of the button plunger stem.

Remove the 6 T20 screws from door trim including the 2 adjacent to the rear wiper motor housing.

Pull off the door trim, it is on plastic 'popper' fixings.

Remove the electric door 'actuator' (one T20 screw).

Insert boot button and fit 'O'ring.

Refit 'actuator' and check movement to ensure nothing is binding.

Refit door trim.

Quite an easy job really, the hard bit was getting the 'O'ring. I tried an 'E'clip first but it snagged on the 'actuator'

Have now found on eBay a guy offering a stainless steel clip for this repair. 99p + 50p postage. Wish I had found it earlier!

Hi Adam,

Many thanks.. I followed your instructions and saved a trip to the local garage. Man those renault screws are hard to remove if you do not have the right tool. I used a pair of cutting pliers to wrench them loose !

I had this problem with my 2002 Scenic. I fixed it by removing the interior trim on the boot panel to expose the boot lock. I then purchased a small rubber "O" ring from a local shop for 20 pence. You need to push the boot button back into its slot and then from the inside slip the "O" ring over the end of the button so it sits into the groove. (it's easier if you have someone else to help by holding the boot button in place otherwise it keeps popping out). Then refix the interior panel. Job done. Took about 20 minutes and cost a matter of pence. This repair is still working 18 months later.
