Mend Renault Megane Scenic Limp Mode Problem

Limp mode problem?

Renault Megane Scenic S reg 1.6 Auto.
Has been in limp mode (stuck in 3rd and with engine management light on) for nearly 6 months. After one and a half hours drive got petrol. When started car engine management light went out and got gears back. 10 minutes after turning off engine the light was back on. What is causing this and what can be done about it???

Done that at garage. Faults cleared. Put car into gear and light comes on again. No faults showing.
