how can i fix my l/rover freelander?

Early Freelander1 clock/radio displays fail on a regular basis, from missing digit segments to complete display failure. Replacing the clock display will rectify the problem for a while, but inevitably it will fail again. The cost of a NEW genuine Land Rover parts clock is in excess of £90, although such items can be obtained on ebay for considerably less if you opt to buy one originally installed in a Rover (amber light) as opposed to a Land Rover (green light) - the units are the same. If you want to retain the green light, then carefully open the faulty clock casing (do this first to practice) to remove the graduated green filter behind the LCD display, and then carefully install it into the working clock (you'll have discovered the pitfalls when taking the old clock apart). BE VERY CAREFUL with the ribbon cable attached to the LCD and the circuit board, if this becomes detached anywhere, the working clock will become as useless as the non working clock. Make sure the small piece of rubber tubing goes back exactly where it came from (you'll see what I mean when you open the first clock).
