Y reg Diesel Escort Van. Engine runs fast then slow!!!?
I have a Y reg escort diesel van. When i first start it on a morning it runs as though there is a fuel shortage. It runs fast then slows down, then speeds up.Its the same when i drive. When she warms up it improves a lot,but there is still times i can feel her run faster then slower. I have checked the fuel and ther is no blockage or water in the fuel or filter. Please can some one help before i rip my lips off. Thank you,

with mine it was the throttle peddle , some fancy bugger with a resistor or something in it ...got a new one fitted for £60 ...no probs since .

If your fuel filter head has a primer button it is likely that the diaphram beneath has gone porous allowing air to be drawn in.
A sign of this is if you pump the primer until resistance is felt you can often then find fuel around the button. If so you can only replace the filter head. This usually causes slow starting when vehicle has stood awhile eg. over night.
