Mend Indesit Eat Elements

Indesit - WD12S: Likes to EAT heating elements!?

Hi all!

My four year old Indesit WD12S washer dryer has developed the nasty habit of COOKING the new heating elements I'm installing in it. I put a new element in the other day and today it died with a bang and a burning smell - removed element and it's god scorch marks coming up it!

It looks very much as if the element was activated while the machine had no water in the drum! Now I just get a F7 code whenever I attempt to do anything other than a quick rinse and spin.

So my question is - could this be a stuck heater relay? Why has this recurred after sending my PCB for repair only a week ago!?

Thanks!

Well, QER sent back the ECU tested as 100%, with the suggestion that indeed I should check the pressure switch (Excellent service from QER, btw!) so renewed it as a matter of course.

Also replaced temperature sensor above element (was giving a variable ohm reading!) and all has been well since!

Yay, clean pants! :-D

Yes, I did think it sounded very like the original problem!

I have a call in to return the PCB for a factory test (With QER, the company who fixed it originally) so hopefully it's as simple as that.

Additionally (while I have the unit open) I'm also replacing the thermostat (above the heater), the element ('cause the last one is baked) and the pressure switch.

I figured that even if all of these parts are working now, they are among the most likely to fail next, so it might save me the trouble of having to pull the thing out and open it up again, in the near future!

I'll post back and report on how the test of the PCB goes!

F7 comes up as a stuck heater relay in my datasheet. If the relay was already replaced the fault must be further up the line with whatever switches the relay - possibly a driver chip on the circuit board? Wouldnt hurt to check the pressure switch either to rule out problems with the fill detection.
