my hotpoint dishwasher keeps on the pre-wash cycle only?

in the manual on the trouble shooting page, if your dishwasher has no water it says the pre wash and the daily wash should flash. i have the same problem, i can only guess that the daily wash is not flashing with the pre wash. checked all over ours and could find nothing wrong, the only thing i could put it down to is a faulty water in solinoid. looked on the internet and have found no answers, contacted hotpoint all they can do is send an engineer for £90 !
if you find out any more let me know
