How do I deactivate the immobiliser on a 1997 Ford Escort diesel van?

The immobiliser on my escort van has cut in - at least this is what I assume judging by the red flashing light beneath the clock and the failure of the starter to crank. Can I bypass this or reset it?

I had the same problem 6 months ago.
Try leaving the key in the ignition (turned on) for approx 45mins..
This somehow solved my prob, hopefully could work for you.
