Mend Dyson DC03 Vacuum Cleaner Repair

How can I repair the drive to the beater /brush bar on my Dyson DC03?

The drive has stopped turning the belt - possibly following string or carpet fringe getting wrapped around the beater bar and jaming this up - the belt and the beater bar are now free of debris and in tact but the drive seems disconnected from the belt.
