I've just had to do this as well and have added some notes under the question 'How can access the power switch encloser on Dyson DC04?' which may help further. If you haven't already don the job, good luck!

u need to clip the on/off button to gain acess to switch then cut wire shorter and rejoin onto switch rebuild and away u go ;)
