Have bought vauxhall astra 1.6 active with no manual cannot find catch to open bonnet. Feel totally daft but where is it

the release lever is situated on drivers side under the dash, when you have pulled that look at front grill slightly to the right you wll see a black tag has popped out pull tag towards you and it will release the catch. good luck.
