why is the water not draining from my machine?

my hotpoint electronic 1000 deluxe 9536 is not draining the water away can anyone suggest anything please

Run waste pipe into a bucket to empty machine.
Check the filter unit for blockages.
Disconnect pump from sump hose and check for obstruction in either item.
