Probably not much help to you but exactly the same thing just happened to my Ferguson VCR. I had noticed a slight deteriation in picture quality recently but all of a sudden I get just snow. I have not tried cleaning the heads, on inspection they look fine. As it went so suddenely I suspect something more catostrophic. I would be interested in any answers you get.
