When setting my washing machine on any program adding detergent directly in the drum and softener in the drawer,I am finding that although the clothes are clean they are not soft because the drawer is not empty of softener.

Fabric softener is dispensed by siphon action from the drawer. most likely the siphon pipe is blocked. You have to remove the top cover, take off the pipe and clean . Check out www.2ndwave.co.uk/manual.html
