Hi My ghd straighteners are about 18 months old - loose connection?

My straighteners have a loose connection I think. The light is coming on and they are heating up but when I move them the light goes off and on. Are they safe to use?. They still seem very hot?

The straighteners will still stay hot... but as soon as the light goes out, that means they will slowley start to cool down. They are ok to use at the moment, and for the time being, but after a while they may become dangrous. I am having the same problem right now with my remington Straighteners.

same with my straighteners. I have some good quality Remington ones, they are briliant and i cant live without them. They have recently become faulty because of loose connection, and my previous straighteners had the same problem. Try using a soldiering iron, or talking them to an electrician. I have just searched on the Argos website, and i am going to buy some new cheap ones for £15. That way it is probley cheaper than mending it. But, if you have ghds, which are really expensive, i would definetly get them reparied, or take them back to the shop, if your garantee hasent ended?

Just inside the handle there is an electrical swivel connector that allows your straighteners to turn without twisting the cable. Failure of this connector is a common fault.
If you know someone who is good with a soldering iron, this connector can be bypassed - BUT you need to make sure you don't twist the cable too much after a repair of this type. This is the cheapest way.
The "correct" way is to replace the cable and connector, but this still leaves you with a connector that is likely to fail in the future.

I think you'll find that the wire has frayed internally below the insulation where the cable goes into the handle. Eventually they will fail altogether. For safety's sake you need to get them repaired soon although they are unlikely to become dangerous unless the plastic cable insulation splits.
