Singer 4562 How can I keep thread from knotting up iside bobbin case?

I have a Singer 4562. Does this plastic bobbin case hold bobbin at a slant? Why does the spindle spool of thread mass up into a knarled mess, inside under needle and in bobbin case? What is the discription of the bobbin case? Mine is a black plastic and an open circlular shaped case. Is there a piece missing? It seems to fit in the compartment at a slant, but the sewing needle just amasses thread inside the bobbin case when it sews. I bought machine used.

This is the exact problem that I'm having with my 4562. However, the silver lever on the upper left that's supposed to hold the bobbin case down has too much tension & thread gets stuck underneath it. If I move the lever off, the bobbin case has too much play and I then have other problems with it. It has been driving me crazy for a long time & I only recently brought it out of storage to try using it again. And now I remember why it bugged me.

I solved this problem on my Singer 4562 machine by making sure that the lever in the upper left corner of the casing was pulled back into place. I found the manual at the Singer site (free download) and there was a diagram and directions for installing the bobbin case there. I lost the manual years ago and have spent many frustrating hours fighting with my machine as the thread bunched and the bobbin case broke loose. It was an easy fix (though I did tighten it too much at the beginning). I am so happy it is fixed I thought I would share.

I'm having the same problem...is the little tension arm on the lower right supposed to hold the bobbin case in place? My bobbin case just seems to jump all of the place. I just replaced in because the last one broke as a result of the needle hitting the top right side of the case. I also have the Appolo.

Your bobbin case is commonly known as Appolo and is an absolute pain, the design was changed many years ago but I have people sending me pictures of the bobbin case area where the machines have not been converted, the bobbin case should sit completely flat on the raceway, if the thread is bunching up it could be not enough gap between the bobbin case and the right hand silver part of the guide, push the bobbin case to the right with your thumb and look at the gap, there should be enough room only for a thread thickness of about number 40 to pass through, if it is too wide it will pull the bobbin case up and jam all the thread, there are two screws on the right hand side that you can slacken off to adjust the gap.
