Mend Ford Escort Ignition

why wont my N reg ford escort start?

the locks on my escort were worn so I bought a secondhand set. No problem fitting them but the I am unable to start the car. THe dashboard lights come on but there is no attempt to start when fully turning the key. I have even replaced the black ring that goes around the barrel ( I believe this is to do with the security system what am I doing wrong or what else should I be doing?

there is a transponder in your old key which is coded to your vehicle,if you are careful you can remove it and put it in your new key [unless you have a spare "original "key to swap also, you will not be able to code spare keys.[it is situated under red insert on key]
