Joining two coaxial satellite cables together using a F-Connector coupler?

I joined two coaxial satellite cables together using a F-connector
(female). I also used two male F-connectors. I would like to know do I have to have the outer silver wires connecting the F connector in any way? Also how does the female F-connector work? What I mean is do the copper connections have to connect inside the female F-connector or does the female F-connector do that?

I am trying to figure out why we cannot get Sky TV using 5 year old dish that we have had for sometime. We have had appliance men to look at it and they told us it was the recevier on the dish itself that was broken.

You just have to ensure that the inner and outers are connected correctly on the Male plugs - with no shorts. That cable carries power and if you short it you can zap your STB.

A good idea is to try the box without your extension first.

If some one has told you that the LNB is broken why don't you believe them? New LNBs are very cheap (a few pounds each) but if it is a Sky dish make sure you get the correct LNB as they are not standard.

BTW I'd put future questions in the satellite receivers section.It was only luck that I looked here - its for electrical stuff rather than electronic.
