How can I repair my Vax 2000 wet and dry vacuum?

The bolt heads are 10mm - I used a socket + 1/4" extension bar to get at them. Once the top was off, I checked the 3 10mm bolt heads and tightened up one of them. This cured the loud buzz and rattle. I replaced the carbon brushes which were worn out after 19 years of service...

I want to replace the on/off switch on Vax 2000 wet/dry vaccuum I have removed the two philips head screws holding the the black cover but can't get the cover off. any help

Rod Briggs... thanks very much.. managed to take mine apart and repair the water hose clip which had come loose. Now working fine again. For info, mine is the Rapide 5120 and it exactly the same set up.

will not draw draw soapey water solution from machine , hoses r not kinked , its fully submerged in top half of machine. and trigger seems ok have checked . any ideas.

Many thanks to Rod Briggs for instructions to repair a Vax 2000.
I have heard that he is a bit of a legend when it comes to fixing stuff (including computers) although his wife says he's not so handy with the washing up or making the tea.

On a more serious note though for anyone else interested in stripping down the motor area of a Vax 2000, (MAKE SURE UNIT IS NOT CONNECTED TO ELECTRICITY SUPPLY) first remove the 2 black cross head screws form the black plastic carry handle where the on / off button is. This effectively reveals the inside of the handle. At both ends of the open handle, where it meets the motor housing / body (orange plastic) you should find a 10mm bolt. The one about six inches below the on / off switch is obvious, but the one at the opposite end of the handle isn't. To reveal the other bolt head you need to unscrew the 2 black cross head screws that hold the electric cable clamp in place. With this removed, you will now see the second 10mm bolt head. Remove both bolts and carefully raise the orange casing. Be careful not to stress the connected cables. Disonnect the cables if you need to remove the motor. Before re-assembly it's worth tightening all bolts etc, visible inside the housing, as these may have loosened over time due to motor vibration. A fairly simple task, no expertise required. A 5-10 min job.
