How can I fix my Miele T230C?

The trick will still work in 2018 :-)

my t273 miele dryer is allready one year standing like a white block on top of the washing machine.
today i decided i will fix it.
after a quick read here i took the thermostat apart and placed it in the fridge for 30 min/
and........ WALLA it works again.
thank you for this 100$ + 45$ parts you just saved me

Hi I put the thermostat in the freezer overnight, when I took the thermostat back out and shook it I could hear something inside sort of rattle, not sure if this is normal. I reconnected the thermor back to my tumble and it's giving much better heat off, only thing is it doesn't appear to automatically knock off when the clothes have dried, it just keeps going until I open the door

Hi! I can confirm that I had problem with 36FXH16 thermostat on my miele Novotronic Dryer and after put it for some minutes in the freezer (-17 degrees) now it works as new! Try it and let us know!

I had the same problem and called for a Miele technician, before reading the advise on this site. He replaced the thermostat and it cost me about £180 (in Norway). I wish I had read this first. Anyway, he told me that this can occur if you stop the machine before the cold-air sequence is completed, because the temperature will continue to rise.

The reason that the thermostat "fails" is due to bad airflow throught the heater unit. This stat is a "one-shot" item, meaning it will cut out at 160 degs and NOT reset. Before fitting new one you must find the problem of bad airflow, which could be badly blocked filters, flatten outlet hose, or blocked outside vent. In the case of the condenser dryer ( C models) it will be the filters X 3 in the door aperature or a blocked condensor unit. It more of a scrubbing job to remove not only fluff but also body fats from all airflow parts.

I had thermostats fail three times. Having read from Steven December 2009 that it could be the heater relay causing the problem I removed the relay, found by removing the top and looking towards the top, back of the machine and took off the relay cover to find badly burnt contacts. I cleaned them up with fine glass paper and reassambled it all. The tumble dryer now runs much hotter than it did before and is therefore much more effective and the thermostat has n't blown. £68 saved for new relay.

John Davis told us THE answer ...."Some thermostats can be reset! Type 36FXH16 is designed to reset itself if it is kept for a while below 0C - so just pop it in the freezer for a few hours" ....I tried it, put it in the freezer (-25°c) for 2,5 hr ....assemble it back into the dryet , turn on the dryer ...yes yes you can hear it make a click ....and ...bingo ....works just fine.

Its the thermostat, a small device at the back of the drier that costs approx £29.00 to replace and they constantly blow.

I purchased replacement thermostats in Feb 2009 for £16.99 from 4ourhouse.co.uk. In July 2010, the price from the same supplier was £28.99. To avoid this awful rip-off by Miele UK, I have ordered from Germany via eBay for about £15 a pop. If we all do this, Miele UK might be a bit more reasonable in their pricing - after all, it is a design fault that causes this problem.

My dryer was not heating and yes it was the thermostat which I have replaced with a Bosch one which has a small push button to reset. The Engineer told me that if it goes wrong again it maybe that the heating relay which is located at the back at the top of the machine (you need to take the top off) may need to be replaced.

I have had the same problem for some time and have replaced the part several times. A very helpful technician at Miele suggested that I made sur that the condenser was clean. If you hold it up sideways and look through the metal grills then you should be able to see clear daylight. I could not when I first did it. Basically this causes a blockage to the free flow of air through the machine and the thermostat over heats. To clear it I used a power washer, the only tool that would do it. I now do it regularly when cleaning the machine. The real benefit has been a noticeable decrease in electricity consumption- easily paying for the new part and the washer!

In cases anyone reads this, I ordered the part mentioned in this thread (£20ish from partmaster). I then unscrewed the metal panel on the back of the machine. You can't miss the bit to replace as it's the only real thing you can see. There are two wires each side of the thermostat. All you do is pull the wires off the old thermostat, unscrew the old thermostat, screw in the new one and then reattach the wires. I've never fixed anything like this before and it only took me 10min with a screw driver. Good Luck!

Any idea how to remove the thermostat? Meile have just quoted me £90 call out plus parts to fix this. If I can do it for £20 I'd REALLY like to. Thanks!

If the thermostat trips it is most likely due to poor airflow - you need to clean the filters AND condenser AND check around the fan inlets at the bottom.
Some thermostats can be reset! Type 36FXH16 is designed to reset itself if it is kept for a while below 0C - so just pop it in the freezer for a few hours.

This is definitely the thermostat. This has happened to me 4 times in four years. On the last time I asked the engineer to show me how to replace the thermostat and it's very easy. The thermostats are available online (www.yourtronic.com) search for part number 5432530. More often the reason for the par failure is due to overloading of the dryer or not cleaning the filters regularly. Basically this is a fuse and will blow first if the temparature exceeds safe levels.

It's an issue with the thermostat or klixon (reference Miele 5432530).
I have replaced it already 4 times. The component costs 30 EUR and is very easy to remove. Prefer a 190°C temperature range than a 160°C. But the root reason is a problem with the electronic driver command.

The problem was fixed by an electrician - it was a faulty thermostat! Part cost less than £20.00 and whole service cost £75.00. Lucky it wasn't the heating element which would have cost over£200 just for the part.
