Vauxhall astra van 1.7 td 1995 cooling fan?

Does anyone know if the cooling fan on my vauxhall astra 1.7 td is dual speed. Problem is : The temp creeps up to 100 then the fan kicks in and takes it down to 95 and so on and so on even on the motorway, the thing is though it doesnt go into the red. I read in another forum that cavaliers have a duel speed fan, a slow speed to keep the engine constant and then it will kick in at full speed when the temp rises to 95, say when you are in a traffic jam. ????? If it is does anyone know why it is not working on the slower speed ????? Help please before my beloved work horse pops its cloggs :)

just looked at the fan speck in my haynes manual, it shouldnt kick in until 100 degrees, regardless of engine on petrols, should think its the same fan on the td, so dont worry. If you do just put the heater on full blast and open the windows. The heater matrix is first off the engine and will drop the temp immediately. If the blower goes cold and the temp increases you need to stop and top up the water asap. The early warning of this is the blower cools when at idle. ie sat at lights. I've just driven my 1.7 td 150 miles with a split a rad in heavy traffic. and the gauge never went above 95 with the heater on full. I've been told you can limp a car home with a blown head gasket in this manor. It worked for me. Replacing rad tomorrow so may be asking some questions myself

Hi. Cant exactly help but suffice to say my 1.7tds does the same. if I drive under 85 it stays at a regular temp. I have changed the thermostat and coolant but to no avail. It does say in the book that you can run the diesel up to 100 degrees as normal
