Mend Emerson TC1966D Channel Tv Top

Channel Display?

I have a Emerson tv model number TC1966D when tv is on the channel display is on at top of the screen also ch set is on as well,can not get them to shut off. Could you either help me figure how to get rid of it with a universal AT&T remote or tell me how to disconnect that part from the schematics and where it is located? Not a TV repairman here so could you please be exact.

I successfully turned off the channel set display on this model television using an inexpensive GE universal remote [Model No. RM24911/RM84911]. I set it to program code 0147 and pressed the following sequence of buttons: Info>Setup/Shift>Right volume control.
