I called Aurora at 1-800-327-8508. I explained my shredder's motor ran, but the cutting blades no longer rotated -forward or reverse. As it was past warranty I asked how to disassemble the unit.
The operator listened to the sound and diagnosed one or both nylon drive gears were stripped. She took my
model number- AuroraAS650C
date of purchase- I estimated it to be after 2006
I ordered the gear set on the phone for $10.
She told me there are 6 obvious screws recessed about 1 inch each on the bottom of the motor/cutter housing...
and one hidden screw under the small oval label.
UNPLUG THE UNIT. DON'T PLUG IT IN TO TEST UNLESS YOU HAVE A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE FUNCTIONS.
Carefully remove the top of the housing as the paper sensing rod can fall off the unit. I put a couple of pieces of masking tape across the top to hold it in place.
The cutters and motor unit are held onto the bottom of the housing with four screws. They have to be removed to get to the drive gears which are covered by a plastic housing. That cover is attached with screws of varied lengths, so remember which screws went where.
Once the gears were exposed it was easy to remove both nylon gears that had been damaged. Remember the order and direction of the gears.
I await the mail now to see how it all goes together.
