My husband got a credit card stuck in my shredder and now its jammed, how do i get it out?

My shredder stopped functioning and I was about to buy a new one when I decided to look it up and found this page. I tried the recommendation to take a paper clip and clear out pieces of paper near the sensor and voila! it is working again. Thanks for saving me from buying a new one. Now I'm going to try the vegetable oil on paper to lubricate it!

I have the Aurora AS662C paper shredder. I disassembled the unit to lubricate the internal gears and the safety switch on the bottom of the unit popped out of place (the switch that prevents the shredder from working unless it's properly seated in its waste basket). I cannot figure out how to position the switch before putting the cover back on.

Please see Isaac Jacobs entry below. His link to the pictures and instructions on how to reassemble were very very helpful. Great Job Isaac

I too had the problem where the shredder would only work in reverse. I unplugged the shredder. Using a flashlight, looking down in from the top, in the center of the slot where you insert the paper there is a little white tab/sensor. One single shred of paper was lodged behind that sensor. Using an straightened out paper clip bent so there was a hook on one end I was able to fish out that single shred of paper from behind the sensor. I plugged it back up. The machine now works perfectly. Hope this helps. Jeffrey

I have an Aurora AS662C and it would only work in reverse. I took a flash light and looked in where the paper goes and there was paper around the sensor. I Unplugged it and pulled the jammed paper out and it works now.

Update to my earlier post. It works!!! You have to be very careful about keeping the paper sensor (Off-white arm) in place while putting in the screws. I also ran a few sheets through with a thin strip of vegetable oil rubbed across it to lubricate the blades (apparently you are to do this regularly-Oops!)

IT NOW WORKS LIKE BRAND NEW!!! (I've had it about a year)

Thanks to Isaac Jacobs for his post!

I did the same thing, couldn't figure out how to put it back together. I am going to try it--hope it works...

I removed jammed paper and now it only goes in reverse. I have a teflon rod that came out and don't know to reassemble.

Thank you Isaac Jacobs. I couldn't figure out that there was a screw under the sticker. The shredder isn't top-quality but at least it's working again.

A big thank you to Isaac Jacobs! I had taken my shredder apart, cleared out some wadded up paper jam, but then I could not figure out how to put the plastic paper detection latch back on. I did not see how it was originally in place. I found Isaac's description along with some very helpful pictures. Now the shredder is back together and working...for now! Thanks again!

No answer, just a complementary remark to Isaac Jacobs. Now if I had only found this guide BEFORE I opened it. I missed the sixth screw under the label and voila! I managed to cleanly snap the plastic support post there! Anyway, your instructions are spot on as I have taken mine apart and put it back together a few times already. Each time it works for awhile, but inevitably it fouls up again. I'll replace it but I'm sort of the old school as I hate to buy throw away items. I needed a shredder quick and bought this one about six or seven months ago and it got fairly heavy usage at times and did its job AOK until today. Oh well ...

I just had an issue with this. Not sure if you'll ever return to this site, being a few months after the fact, but I wrote a guide on disassembling this device and properly reassembling it:

Be very careful with this, but remove the five screws and prop it open and use needle nose or something like that to pull the pieces of the credit card out... be very careful as I now have a loose teflon rod that came out and dont' know how to put it back in... so the unit only reverses now... good luck...
