Try cleaning the laser eye inside the unit with a cloth or tissue. If that doesn't work, the eye itself could be faulty as is common with many cheaper, average quality cd players. If you are lucky enough to find spare parts for such units, parts such as the laser eye can be replaced. But, nowdays it is usually a question of economics, meaning that it is usually not worth repairing cheap quality devices. Especially considering that they can easily be replaced at an affordable price.
