Mend Briggs & Stratton Starting Smoke Oil

How to fix broken Briggs & Stratton Sratton Starting HP470- smoke / oil?

I was mowing the grass the other day, when i can only assume the blades got stuck (grass was too high). So the mower cut out. I thought I cleared out the all grass but it would seem some was wedged in there and so when I started the mower up again a big cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust. I stopped it, let it col down and gave it a good clean after about 30 mins started it up again. Now it does run and the blades do spin but a constant stream of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. So again I stopped using it right away and stuck the mower in the corner. I went back about 10 mins later to see oil is now leaking from the exhaust. What do I need to fix this problem? Hope its not going to be expensive. Thanks

i had the same problem with my briggs and stratton lawn mower, all i did to fix it is take the exhaust off and cleaned in there and i also took the gasket off and all you need to do is soak the oil up and i used this stuff called easy gasket (silicon type stuff) and put it round the gasket and put it all back on , i recommend you do it this way than like every else is say because i did that and it started to leak after 5 weeks of use .

It sounds like you tipped the mower over on its side to clear the Grass an oil has entered the exhaust manifold through the open exhaust valve. If you run the mower on high speed for 10 minutes it shoud burn the oil off. If it doesn't clear there may be another problem such as a broken piston ring. In the future remember to always tip the mower so that the exhaust is uppermost, although this may cause some petrol to come out of the filler knob.

the opperator obviously turned the mower upside down to clean out the blades, or layed it where the oil drained into parts of the engine where it does not belong.=first:never lay the mower upsidedowm with oil and/or gas in machine. If you must lay on side to access beneath;be sure to have spark plug pointing in up position(this keeps engine oil from going into carburetor, exhaust and maybee even on top of piston).the white smoke is the oil burning off. if enough oil gets on top of the piston(from long periods of being in incorrect position),a condition called"hydrostatic lock" can occur; which is when trying to compress a liquid{liquids dont compress}.in that case you would remove spark plug, blow out oil(liquid)by pulling start rope, and then reinstall plug and try to start.it may smoke a lot but let run until stops smoking.then, shut off, check your oil level(fill as needed), and resume your task.

Did you turn the mower on it's side to clear it? If so no panic - the miffler has simply filled up witrh oil via the breather. Check the oil level, then if OK simply allow it to run. It will clear in about 5 mins.

If there is no compression it means that th conrod is broken inside. it also depends how old the mower is. it can cost alot to repair. so if it is and old engine i would proberly go and buy a new engine. otherwise i would repair
