If the washer is a direct drive washer, with the water supply lines on the right of the washer if your facing the front of it, your problem sounds like a broken motor coupler. Instead of a belt the direct drive washers use these to run the machine. So if your washer fills and drains ok, this is what I would look at. It is about a 15 dollar part.

check the belt if that is ok then replace the motor brushes make sure you pull the plug before doing anything
