I have the same problem with my samsung french door refrigerator. Very loud popping and cracking noises. it is not the icemaker as the guy with the stuck caps key states. This is very frustrating and annoying.

From everything I have read online about this issue this is a design defect of the refrigerator. Mine does the same thing and it drives me crazy! It has to do with the coolant going through the pipes on the back of the unit.

Had a similar problem and so many people teling us different thing however it turned out ours had something call a baffle which lets the air from the freezer side into the fridge side which was faulty this we found out when we called agsrefrigeration who operate in the london area they came out and replaced the offending part. However noise can be caused by anything such as vibration or even the gas circulating. www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk.

we purchased a samsung model 263aewp in july, 2010. everything works great except for that metallic popping noise. '40 year diy' has it correct, i think. it sounds like a solenoid or some magnetic switch sounding off every few minutes or hours apart. it is not the ice maker. the tray is full. it works fine. i know that noise.

We used our Samsung refrigerator in a rental home for 1 year without hooking up the ice maker and it made these noises. During this time we were building a new home. When we moved into the new home and hooked up the ice maker, it made the same noises & made them whether the ice maker was turned on or off, plus it never produced any ice cubes.

We had an extended warranty and proceeded with trouble calls regarding no ice cubes. Eventually every part of the ice maker was replaced but still no ice cubes. The Repair tech said part of the ice maker drive is installed before the insulation was sprayed & therefore can't be accessed for repair.

Since the appliance was unrepairable, Lowes bought out our warranty for the full original purchase price. We liked the Samsung so well otherwise, we purchased a nearly identical new one. It made ice cubes from day one without any banging, crashing or popping! We are very pleased with Lowes extended warranty.

Suspect refrigerant redirection solenoid and/or cooling coils not properly secured during manufacturing. Ice maker does make noise but only related to ejecting cubes. Defrost cycle can make some popping noise but not usually loud. Mine has made these noises since day one. Otherwise works well but wish it was quiet.

Funny how no one actually answers the question. Not correctly at least.

Yes mine does the same thing. It is NOT the ice popping into the tray as someone suggested. I keep thinking I'm going to walk in one day and the fridge will be dead. The popping is REALLY loud. I'm sure that will happen the day after my warranty expires.

It is not the ice maker. I, too, have never hooked my ice maker up so it is not that. I had a side by side from Samsung (2 years back) with the ice maker in use and it was totally silent. Something is wrong here. I've had 6 service calls so far and nothing has changed the popping which is so loud it has awaken me more than once during the night.

Its not the ice maker!! We have an ice machine and do not use the ice maker in the frig. It has never been turned on from day one. The frig makes loud popping noises at random times all day long. Sometimes in less than ten minutes intervals. Even if the ice maker were turned on it could not make ice that fast.

IT'S THE ICE MAKER! - WHEN EACH SET OF ICE CUBES ARE FROZEN, THEY ARE PERIODICALLY EJECTED INTO THE ICE STORAGE BIN AND THIS PROCESS WILL OFTEN CAUSE A POPPING NOISE. AS THE CUBES ARE EJECTED FROM THE MACHINE SOMETIMES THE CUBES WILL STICK AND MAKE A POPPING NOISE WHEN THE MACHINE FORCES THE CUBES TO RELEASE AND EJECTS THEM INTO THE BIN. AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT SLEEPING IN THE SAME ROOM FORGET ABOUT IT NOTHING IS WRONG.

I just read on the Samsung website that this is exactly what is happening...so it's normal.

Gayle,

Mine does the same thing. I also had a brand new GE French door model right before I bought this one and it did the same thing. The GE was returned because it just ran way too loud when the compressor was on. Both units make a loud popping sound at random times throughout the day. I have a feeling what we are hearing is some new type of insulation that is sandwiched between the inside and outside of the fridge moving do to temperature extremes. At first I thought it was just some poor design with the GE, but my brand new Samsung does the same exact thing. I don't there is anything to worry about as far as it malfunctioning. I admit it's very creepy...makes you feel like someone is in the kitchen doing something.
