Mend Renault Laguna Windows Started

renault laguna II 2001 sport tourer - Squeaking front windows?

The front windows have started to squeak when opening. I have removed the speaker from the inner door panel to reveal the vertical window runner and the follower (which is attached to the window glass). I have sprayed these with silicon and applied grease but this makes no difference. Is there another runner or anything else near the front of the window that could squeak. The squeak is a 'dry plastic on metal' sound.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Roger H.

Hi, I was fixing a broken cable on the drivers door of my 2002 Renault laguna 1.8 sport tourer dynamique this afternoon; so I had the entire door panel off to find the fault (broken cable) and fix it.
There is a second runner identical to the one you found (behind the speaker) It is a metal upright with a blue plastic runner that has a couple of cables attached to it ot work the window. I would guess that is going to be your "dry plastic on metal" squeak.

To take the panel off requires:
15 minutes, a "torque" screwdriver set, a large flat blade screwdriver a medium flat blade screwdriver, a small flatblade crewdriver, a small rag to protect the paint, some cutters. And a small child to hold the door panel.

How to: (the further down the list the more access you get behind the panel)
1) Undo the screw hidden behind the door latch, and the two at the bottom or the door.
2) Remove blanking panel from door mirror area using a levering technique.
3) Gently use the flat-blade to prise part of the panel off using the rag as a cushion between the stem of the driver and the bodywork. (Try to find an area of panel away from clips etc and go SLOW!)

Note: At this point the door being held by a very small cable to the door light! Use small child to hold the weight of door panel.

4) Near the door mirror the foam trim running around the edge of the panel goes inside something, use the cutters to snip it off.
5) Try to remove SOME of the clips holding the cables tight to the door cant remember the best way, but go easy you dont want a trip to renault for replacment clips!
6) Remove door light including bulb holder bulb and cable, unclip bulb to prevent from getting damaged. (CAREFUL its hot by now!)
7) Prise the electric window controls up gently at the back, a small tang appears as you pull there are 2 on each side and maybe one on the front. You need to release these as they appear by pressing the part that very slightly pops out from under the lip if the controls.
8) Then unclip the electrical connections.
9) Cut the cable tie holding the foam around the wires as they come into the door panel, remove foam and pull connectors out 1-by-1.
10) Unclip the electric mirror adjustment control, this is done with the small screwdriver around the outer ring its simply pops out when you get it in the right place. (careful not to jab to far as you may damage the inner workings or to go to shallow and break some the lip off.)
11) Unclip electrical connector for door mirror adjustment control.
12) Remove door catch cable from the back of the lever housing, using a flatblade to lever casing off, it has a T shaped end which needs to be slid out from handle (if I remember correctly).
13) Providing I have remembered all the clips and wires the door panel should be completely free from the door.

Easy when you know how!
