How do i repair my escort diesel van?

Escort 1.8 diesel van1998, ive got ignition lights on the dash but it wont turn over.

Sounds like the starter motor has packed in. First with a meter set it to 14 volts put the red to the positive post on your battery and the black lead to the negative post and see how many volts are in the battery if it reads 13 volts it is OK. The battery is OK and it could be your starter motor. Easy to take off, remember to label everything and patience in undoing the starter motor mounting bolts.
