Mend Dirt Devil Vacuum Bagless Belt

Belt on Dirt Devil keeps breaking?

The belt on my Dirt Devil bagless vacuum breaks as soon as I replace it. After replacing the belt and starting the vacuum I smell hot ruber and the belt breaks. Am I doing something wrong or is this a defect in the vacuum?
