P. S. Don't forget to leave enough space on your harddrive where xp is installed so it has space for virtual memory and temp files.

Or... if you like a little risk...switch of the automatic recovery on all drives.

i had similar problem
i opened control panel then clicked on add/remove programs, then click install/uninstall tab and was amazed at some of the programs i downloaded, mainly ones which i wasn't aware of. click on add/remove button and uninstall programs you are sure you don't need. you may be diverted to the programs websites to completely uninstall (they'll ask u why your uninstalling, few questions, and then u can uninstall)
My computer's running a lot smoothly now, so try and check your programs as regularly as u can
i use win 98 se, don't know exactly how it works in xp but probably will be a similar procedure

Go to System / Tools / Defragmenter.
This will tidy up all your files and free space. If you havent done this before it may take some time to complete.

Ron, I'm assuming that your computer is generally running slowly. There could be several reasons for this.

1. Use your Anti-Virus product and do a full scan of your PC.
2. Download Spybot and Ad-aware and scan your PC with these tools.
3. You should also clean the registry. Search for free Registry Cleaners.

These steps should remove any viruses, trojans and spying programs which may be running on your PC. If they are this would explain why your PC is slowing down.

Cleaning the registry removes settings which are no longer required by the software you use.
