Mend Whirlpool Door Dishwasher

What triggers (opens) the soap dispenser door in my Whirlpool?

The soap dispenser flapper door will not open some of the time. What triggers this door to open? This is a whirlpool dishwasher.

there is a soldnoid in the dispensor which is activated then this in turn opens the draw. Dispensors can cost about £30ish plus fitting or you can just put the tablet into the base, works the same.
