why is my chain not getting oil on it why i cut?

when cutting with my saw, no bar oil is making it to the chain. It heats up then suts off. when the saw is sitting for a long period of time the oil is leaking out.

We heat with wood up here and use a chainsaw almost every weekend for extended periods. At this time we have some six chainsaws. Currently we have a Jonsered and a Homelite that have lost bar oil function and are not being used. We have two Poulan 2150's and neither will start, so they are not being used. We are down to two Husqvarna 41's which are operating quite well so far.
It seems that the bar oiler function of most saws is a weak point in the engineering/design...in fact, it isn't very good at all. However, you should carefully clean your bar [use something to clean out all round the bar groove] and verify that the chain-bar [teeth] fit tightly in the bar groove...if not you should change both. Clean out the oil escape point at the bar foot at the saw and, if you can [safely], run the saw with fresh oil to see if oil is actually pumping out [you must do this with the bar and chain removed]...if not you have a plugged delivery system or the oiler pump is worn out and must be replaced.

My stihl has the same issue. I will clean it out and see what I find. The sheet of paper suggestion is a good one. You can also just do it down near some concrete like your driveway.

It may be something as simple as the oil channl being blocked with saw dust. take the bar and chain off scrape the groove of the bar out and follow it back to the hole where the oil goes in, makes sure its thoroughly clean, also clean the oil hole on the body of the saw.

To see if working start saw then at full revs point it at a piece of paper, you should see oil splattering on to it.

I have the same problem with my troy bilt TB4620CC. I think I finally decided it was the chain oiler pump. I am now having problem taking off the clutch assembly to get to the pump. Please let me know when you resolve you problem.
