computer wont start?

hi my computer wont boot up i get the initial screen then it just makes a whirring noise any ideas i have checked all conectons and they are ok

Bob, If you got the PC from new there may be a Recovery disc that you could try. I'd guess that the Windows software on the hard disc is corrupted. As it boots you may get a chance to go into Safe mode by hitting an F key an dthat will be displayed on the screen.
