I have a Do Do I need to remove motor from machine before removing brushes?

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WM63 washing machine that is emptying but not agitating nor spinning, I suspect I need to replace the brushes but firstly do I have to remove the motor from the machine or can I remove the brushes with the motor still connected?

Any help would be appreciated.
