wiring a alternator on a ford tractor model 2000?

I bought A ford 2000 tractor,Do not know if it was converted to 12 volt or was original from the factory. The wiring on this tractor is nightmare, I was wondering what the proper wiring procedure for the alternator was. It would start,but now I have to jump it every time. Changed both battery cables and cable from tha solinoid to the starter,coil is new ,voltage regulator (solinoid) is new ,but only have one wire coming from the alternator,no wire from the battery side of the alternator
