messed up contrast on SIREN 4G MP3?

My player has recently started acting funky. I use energizer rechargeable batteries, and as of yesterday, when I turned it on, it doesn't display correctly. At first, I didn't think it was displaying anything at all, but when you look at it from the correct angle, you can just BARELY read the text. I tried going in and messing around with the contrast, but that made no difference. Another odd thing is when I connect this the mp3 player to my computer via USB, the display works normally.
